Coca-Cola accepts front-of-pack energy labeling

Coca-Cola has alleged that it will add calorie counts to the front of drinks covering in the US and Mexico, through energy information on “nearly all” its products by the end of 2011.

Chairman and chief executive officer Muhtar Kent said: “Nowadays more than ever, people expect details about the products they consume to be both willingly available and visible. This global obligation is about making it easier for consumers to rapidly see the calorie information for our beverages.”

Cascade drinks, unsweetened and unflavored waters, and returnable bottles will be excused from the new labeling system.

Coca-Cola products previously carry out front-of-pack labels in Europe and Australia.
