Labelflash and its Functions

A technology developed by Yamaha Corp. and Fuji Photo Film Co. that enables consumers to burn images directly onto a special dye layer on a disc, using the same laser used for data recording. To burn images and text, you must use the complete Labelflash system which consists of special Labelflash DVD media and a recording system which supports the labelflash function. Labelflash technology burns the image 0.6mm deep into the media in as little as five minutes.

General Specifications of Labelflash System:

Laser wavelength - 655 nm

NA - 0.65

Picture burning time - 5 min (Fast mode) to 20 min (High quality mode)

General Specifications of Labelflash Disc:

Depth Picture burning layer - 0.6 mm from the disc surface

Dye for Picture burning layer - Organic dye

Picture burning area - 25mm to 58 mm

How it works

Generally, a burning function will supply a DVD recorder with raw digital data, to which the recorder's hardware insert header and error rectification information and then converts it into the so-called eight to sixteen (EFM+) modulated patterns. These are the little portions of data that get written to the disc exactly like printed labels.

The altered patterns for DVD writing differ from a minimum value to a maximum value. A grouping of these patterns, is used for writing to DVD-R and DVD+R. The result is that the flamed area looks gloomy than the unused area. LabelFlash takes things in advance and breaks free from the limitations forced by normal modulated patterns. This permits more flexibility in how the laser burns onto DVD recordable media, making the creation of visible images possible.

Advantages of Digital Label Printing

There are four main advantages of digital label printing to be followed as:

1. Speed – with no plates to generate, and very little arrangement of the machine, a custom label job in print a digital printing press can be printed within minutes not hours. Many other printing presses can take several hours to set up for a four color process job, while our digital printing press is ready to go almost instantaneously. By our digital printing process, we can have 4 or 5 custom label jobs away the door whereas the old style printing press is still being set up.

2. Quality – if you want elevated resolution and exciting colors then you require digital printing. Digital printer can print at 230 line screen, while most flexographic printers print at 133 or 150 line screen only. The customers can actually see the difference in the custom label's detail and color. Suppose,if you are selling your products at the retail level, really you should think digital label printing is best for produce the quality of the label.

3. Cost – since there are no plates to produce, no film to yield and minimal machine setup, fixed prices for the digital printer are very low in association with other printing shops. Hence if you want to print a reasonably small number of custom labels (say less than 25,000), you will constantly get a better cost with digital printing. This manner you can order only the products you want, rather than a vast number of custom labels just to get the best unit price - which apparently affects your cash flow in a positive way.

Moreover, designs for custom label and content can change regularly. With digital printing, just submit new artwork and we can start printing the new custom labels, but in flexographic printing it is necessary to have new plates made every time to make a change in label or sticker. Hence, if you have multiple label or sticker designs the plate alleges can add up very quickly.

"Gang running" - is a term that refers to the capability to join several different designs into a single printing press job. In flexographic printing, this is impossible - as each custom label design needs separate plates and setup and consequently each product carries considerable cost outlays. In digital printing, it is possible to "gang" together multiple labels and designs (so long as they're the same size) into a single job. For example, 10 designs of a 3" x 4" custom labels and need 250 stickers of each design, it would treat as a single 2500-label job and cost it accordingly.

4. Flexibility – perhaps digital printing’s supreme power is its flexibility. With digital printing, print 1,000 custom labels and every label can contain different data. Completely variable data printing. Whether you wish to include names from a database, multiple barcodes, consecutive numbers, or just several editions of the same label, digital printing can hold it with ease.

Japan to begin carbon footprint labeling scheme

Japan is to take carbon footprint labels on food packaging and other products in an ambitious scheme to influence companies and consumers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The labels, to show on dozens of items including food , drink, detergents and electrical appliances from next mechanism, will go further than similar labels already in use elsewhere.

They will provide detailed break of each product's carbon footprint in a government-approved calculation and labeling system.

The labels will illustrate how much carbon dioxide is emitted during the manufacture, sharing and clearance of each product, the ministry said. The Japanese campaign is loosely modeled on a British pilot scheme involving Tesco and several other firms, though that scheme has yet to gain official approval.

Furthermore, the trade ministry's told the Guardian: "We believe our labeling will provide more detailed information, to allow consumers to make the best possible choice."

Officials decided to sketch up a uniform method of labeling carbon emissions to alleviate fears among some firms that their competitors may use in-house calculations to produce the lowest possible emissions data.

To support the scheme, the ministry has released details about the carbon footprint left by a packet of crisps. A single bag produces 75 grams of carbon dioxide, 44% of which comes from growing potatoes, with another 30% produced during the production stage. The packaging accounts for an additional 15%, while the delivery and disposal of the bag contains account for 9% and 2%, respectively.

Shoppers will be informed how much CO2 is produced by the machinery used to plant barley and hops, during production and transportation, and also in recycling process.

Although the labeling scheme is intended, few firms want to be seen to be covering behind competitors in the rush to corner the growing market in eco-friendly products.

The government decides to put carbon-capture technology - the storage of CO2 produced by power plants and factories - in place by 2020.

In a recent survey almost 80% of shoppers are willing to spend no more than an extra 2,000 yen (£10) a month on energy-saving vehicles and other eco-friendly products.

Where to Buy Blank Labels

Blank labels can be printed directly from your home or office. They are commonly existing as inkjet labels or laser printer labels. Some distinctive uses for blank labels include creating mailing labels and labeling supplementary items.

There are two main choices while purchasing blank labels. You can buy blank labels from an office supply store and directly from the manufacturer. The advantages and disadvantages of each way are listed below.

Buying labels directly from the producer is generally much less expensive and can save you everywhere from 35% to 75%. The manufacturers also regularly have more sizes and styles of labels.

Even though office supply stores are usually more expensive, they offer numerous advantages. For example, you do not have to pay for shipping costs. Also, it is typically much easier to return labels to a store if you have any problems.

Manufacturer Direct Advantages

  • Much less expensive
  • More choices

Office Supply Store Advantages

  • No shipping cost
  • Easier to return
